Open days, events and visits
Edinburgh: Extraordinary futures await.

Postgraduate Online Learning Open Days

Taking place on 22 and 23 May 2024. Join us to find out about the +80 postgraduate degrees that you can study online!

Who should attend the event?

The Online Learning Open Days are ideal for anyone considering our fully online postgraduate programmes.

Online learning is a way of studying for a high-quality, internationally recognised postgraduate qualification – including Masters degree (such as MSc, LLM), Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip), Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert), Postgraduate Professional Development (PgProfDev) – at your own pace and without needing to attend classes on campus.

Choose from over 70 live and interactive sessions

During the Online Learning Open Days you will have the opportunity to register for and attend live presentations online, ask your questions to staff and current students, and browse the event homepage which will include useful videos, links and resources.

There will be:

  • Webinars covering the vast majority of our online learning programmes, with opportunities to hear from - and live text chat with - the academic staff that teach on them
  • Webinars delivered by our professional services and student support staff who will outline the support available to you as an online learner at Edinburgh
  • Live panel sessions where current online learning students and recent graduates answer your questions and share their experiences
  • One-to-one text-chat sessions with our Fees, Funding and Admissions experts

PhDs and Fusion Teaching

There are two other types of programmes that some sessions during this event cover:

Edinburgh Futures Institute Online programmes

The Edinburgh Futures Institute has a 'fusion teaching' model that allows students to study on a fully online basis, or to combine online with on-campus study. Although you can study their programmes fully online, all courses require significant synchronous engagement so are different from other fully online programmes.

PhD programmes by Distance

The University offers a limited number of online PhD programmes and these are called 'PhD by distance'. During the event, there is a session on PhDs by Distance at the Edinburgh College of Art so this is the perfect opportunity to find out more about these. However, as these are research programmes, they don't have the same structure or application process as the online masters programmes so the information in the central sessions won't all be relevant for people interested in a PhD by Distance.

How to take part

The sessions will take place at UK local time (British Summer Time, or BST), so please check what time the sessions will take place in your local time zone.

You will get the most out of this event by attending the live sessions, as you will have the chance to participate and ask questions. However, many of the sessions will also be recorded. If you register but can't make the live event, you will be sent a link to these recordings so you can watch them in your own time.

When you register, you will be sent an email with instructions on what platform will be used to host the event and how you can access it. You can find more hints and tips, including information on how to use the main platforms we use to host our events, on the 'Taking part in our online events' page.
