Consultation: British Sign Language Plan 2024 - 30
The University of Edinburgh is developing its second British Sign Language Plan to support the use of BSL in University activities.
Your input
We are seeking your input into the University of Edinburgh BSL Plan 2024-2030. BSL is vital to Deaf, Deafblind, and hard of hearing people across Scotland. The University of Edinburgh has an important role to play in maintaining the vitality of BSL across places and systems. The University's current BSL Plan ends in 2024.
While significant progress has been made, much remains to be done. The Scottish Government also requires us to update our BSL Plan every six years as per the BSL (Scotland) Act 2015. We are taking the opportunity to review our achievements and setbacks to date and set out a clear and direct vision for the next six years.
This draft BSL Plan sets out the priorities and actions that aim to develop the use, learning, and visibility of BSL at the University from 2024 to 2030. We want to ensure that our new BSL Plan accurately reflects the priorities of staff, students, and the local community. We are therefore seeking your views – whether you are a BSL user or not – on the structure and content of our draft BSL Plan 2024-2030.

Draft BSL Plan 2024-2030 questionnaire
The survey will take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Each question in this survey is accompanied by a key priority area we have identified for the draft BSL Plan 2024-2030. The consultation on the draft BSL Plan will be open from Thursday 11 April until Friday 19 April 2024. Results from this consultation will be published on the University's website as the new BSL Plan on 6 May 2024.
