Do you want more deaf and deafblind BSL users studying and working at University of Edinburgh?TRANSCRIPTHello Scottish Deaf Community, my name is Gab Hodge. I'm Deaf from Australia. I work here at University of Edinburgh as Senior Lecturer in Sign Language Linguistics.
Do you want to see more Deaf students studying here and more Deaf staff working here? Please watch this video as we share information about an important event: the University of Edinburgh BSL Plan Deaf Community Consultation evening.
Maybe you are aware the Scottish Government has asked all public bodies to update their BSL Plan for the next six years. Now the first six years have been completed, they want to know what each public body will do for the next six years.
Here at the University of Edinburgh there have been many achievements in the past six years. For example, there are now more Deaf students studying here, many hearing staff have undertaken Deaf Awareness Training, and there are now seven Deaf staff members instead of one.
While these achievements are wonderful, they are also hard won. They were not easy. This means the next BSL Plan needs to be extremely clear and specific.
We invite you to join us on 15 April, 6-8pm in person or watch online via Zoom. We will summarise what has been done in the past six years, and outline what we think we should prioritise for the next six years. We will ask you what you think and also to vote on different priorities. This will help us determine the BSL Plan going forward.
Hope you can be involved, we would love to meet you all. Thank you.
When: Monday 15 April at 6-8pm.
Where: Room G21, Paterson's Land, Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh, EH8 8AQ.
